SAN ISIDRO, Davao del Norte — A 14-year-old student is now recovering from serious injuries after he was stabbed by a 16-year-old schoolmate following a heated argument that escalated into violence on Tuesday night in Barangay Mamangan.

According to a report from the San Isidro Municipal Police Station, authorities received a distress call at around 9:55 p.m. regarding a stabbing incident in the area. Police immediately responded and gathered initial information from witnesses.

Investigators confirmed that around 7:00 p.m., the two minors were playing basketball with their teammates at the barangay covered court when the game turned aggressive. The suspect allegedly bumped the victim intentionally, sparking a confrontation between the two. Their teammates managed to separate them, but the tension did not end there.

The victim reportedly told the suspect to meet him later at Purok Calachuche. The suspect went home afterward—but instead of letting the conflict die down, he returned armed with a bolo. Without warning, he attacked the victim, hacking him on the back and right arm.

After the assault, the suspect sped away on a motorcycle toward an unknown direction and remains at large as of press time.

Meanwhile, the injured teen was rushed to the DRMC Ward Extension (Infirmary) in Sawata for immediate medical attention before being transferred to the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City for further treatment.

Police have launched intensive efforts to track down the suspect, who is now facing a case of frustrated murder.

Authorities remind the public—especially parents and guardians—to keep a close watch on their children’s activities and emotional well-being, stressing that even minor disputes can escalate into life-threatening violence when weapons are involved.
