DAVAO CITY — A drunken argument between a lumber yard owner and his helper turned violent at dawn on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, after the owner allegedly struck his intoxicated worker in the face using an unlicensed .45-caliber pistol inside their workplace in Barangay Lacson, Calinan District.

Police identified the suspect as “Adrian,” 47, a widower and owner of Magbutong Coco Lumber Supply located in Purok 9. The victim, “Crisanto,” 37, is a helper at the same establishment. Both men are originally from Taocanga, Manay, Davao Oriental and currently reside near the lumber yard.

According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the two had been drinking a bottle of Tanduay Rhum inside the store at around 2:00 a.m. when the victim reportedly began acting aggressively, challenging the suspect to a fight. Witness accounts and initial police investigation show that Adrian attempted to pacify his helper, but the latter refused to calm down.

Unable to control his anger, the suspect allegedly grabbed a Remington .45-caliber pistol and struck the victim on the left side of the face. Police said the firearm was unlicensed and carried a magazine with a live round.

Injured and seeking help, the victim ran approximately 150 meters toward the Lacson checkpoint, where personnel of the 1st City Mobile Force Company were stationed. Officers immediately responded, proceeded to the lumber yard, and arrested the suspect on-site. The pistol used in the assault was found on top of a wooden table and confiscated.

The victim was brought by 911 responders to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment, while the suspect is now detained and facing charges for Physical Injury and Violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The Davao City Police Office reiterated its reminder to the public to drink responsibly and avoid confrontations—especially at the height of intoxication—to prevent incidents that may escalate into serious harm.
