DAVAO CITY — A heartbreaking fire claimed the lives of a mother and her two young children early Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025, in Purok 8, Barangay Gumalang, Baguio District — a tragedy that unfolded just hours after the mother posted emotional messages online about her husband’s alleged infidelity.

Authorities identified the victims as a 33-year-old mother, known as “Daphne,” and her daughters, “Cara,” 6, and “Zee,” 2.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire broke out past 2 a.m. and spread rapidly because the house was made of light materials. With the blaze engulfing the 30-square-meter structure within minutes, the victims were unable to escape.

Fire investigators declared the fire out at 3:30 a.m., estimating the damage at around ₱45,000. FO3 Jason Iguana of BFP-Calinan said initial findings point to substandard or faulty electrical wiring as a possible cause. The victims’ family chose not to request SOCO investigation, saying they saw no indications of foul play.

Mother’s Distress Before the Incident

Hours before the fire, Daphne reportedly posted a lengthy, emotionally charged message on Facebook expressing deep pain over her husband’s alleged affair. In the post, she lamented being abandoned, stating that he had chosen another woman while assuring her only that he would not neglect their children.

Screenshots circulating online show the mother’s anguish and sense of betrayal — a glimpse into her emotional turmoil in the hours leading up to the tragedy.

A Community Grieving Three Lives Lost

Neighbors described Daphne as a devoted mother who cared deeply for her children. Many are still shaken, struggling to accept the loss of two very young lives and a mother who had been battling emotional distress.

The tragedy has left the community grieving and searching for answers, while relatives are still in shock and mourning the unimaginable loss.
