Tugunan, BARMM – A longstanding rido (clan feud) in Barangay Balung, Tugunan, Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), was successfully resolved through the intervention of the AHJAG-MILF, in coordination with the local government of Tugunan, barangay officials, and commanders from various units of the MILF-BIAF.
The conflict stemmed from a previous shooting incident targeting Barangay Councilor Ricky Mutalib in Ladtingan, Pikit, several months ago. Although Councilor Mutalib was injured, he survived the attack. Abdulbasit Payo and Crusado Payot were subsequently identified as the alleged perpetrators.
However, according to Nor Ali Alamada, representative of AHJAG-MILF, Councilor Mutalib lacked witnesses to substantiate the accusation. The accused firmly denied involvement in the shooting and even took an oath on the Qur’an to affirm their innocence.
Through a series of meetings and discussions, the parties were able to settle the dispute peacefully, relying on traditional and restorative mechanisms facilitated by AHJAG-MILF alongside local leaders.
The successful resolution of this rido underscores the continuing role of MILF-led mechanisms and local governance in fostering peace and stability in conflict-affected areas of BARMM.
