Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur — Five former members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)–“Bungos” Faction, long pursued by government forces, have voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine Army in a significant boost to ongoing peace efforts in central Mindanao.

The surrender took place on November 16, 2025, when the former combatants formally yielded to CPT Michael Allan R. Eugenio (INF) PA, Commanding Officer of the Bravo (Badgers) Company, 90th Infantry (Bigkis-Lahi) Battalion, 6th Infantry Division. Their return to the fold of the law was followed by the turnover of various high-powered firearms and explosive materials, signaling what authorities described as their firm resolve to abandon armed struggle.

The five returnees were officially presented on the morning of November 17, 2025, at the headquarters of the 90th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Kabengi, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur.

Military officials said the successful surrender is the result of sustained community engagement, localized peace initiatives, and continuous delivery of government services in conflict-affected areas—efforts that have strengthened civilian trust in the Armed Forces and encouraged more fighters to abandon violent extremism.

The returnees will be enrolled in the Enhanced Local Armed Conflict (ELAC) program and the Tulong ng Gobyernong Nagmamalasakit (TUGON) reintegration package, which provide livelihood assistance, security arrangements, and psychosocial support to help former rebels rebuild their lives.

The Bravo (Badgers) Company renewed its call to the remaining members of local terrorist groups to follow the path of peace, emphasizing that the government remains ready to assist those willing to return and reintegrate into society.

“The door to peace is open,” the unit said, urging others still in hiding to take the opportunity to come home and help achieve lasting stability and development in Maguindanao del Sur.
