601st Infantry Brigade Conducts Successful Live Fire Exercises in Maguindanao del Sur

Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur — November 18, 2025 — The 601st Infantry (UNIFIER) Brigade successfully conducted Live Fire Exercises (LFX) at Tapat Hill, Brgy. Meta, Datu Unsay, as the culminating activity of their External Security Operations Training. The exercises were led by Brigade Commander Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu.

The activity aimed to enhance the troops’ operational readiness, coordination, discipline, and overall capability to respond to potential external threats that may affect national security.

During the exercises, soldiers from various units operated multiple mortar systems, including 61mm and 81mm mortars, as well as 105mm howitzers, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and accuracy in their operations.

BGen. Catu emphasized the importance of maintaining a high state of readiness, stating, “Strengthening our readiness against external threats is essential because no one knows when the call to duty will come.” He also assured local residents in Datu Unsay, Shariff Aguak, Datu Hoffer, Ampatuan, and Datu Saudi Ampatuan that the exercises were properly coordinated to ensure public safety, with no civilians present in the designated target areas.

The event was attended by BGen. Ricky P. Bunayog, Commander of the 602nd Brigade, representing MGen. Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, Commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central, along with senior military officials and local government and private sector stakeholders.

Major General Cagara lauded the 601st Brigade for their dedication and professionalism, noting, “I deeply admire the commitment of our troops in strengthening our security capabilities. These exercises not only enhance the skills of our soldiers but also reflect our unwavering resolve to defend the nation. We will continue to pursue higher levels of readiness to ensure that the entire 6th Infantry Division is always prepared to respond to any challenge, whether internal or external.”
