Maragusan, Davao de Oro – A renewed wave of excitement is sweeping through this mountain town as local leaders rally behind the revitalization of Maragusan’s tourism sector, once celebrated as the “Summer Capital of Davao Region.”

On August 2, 2025, Governor Engr. Raul G. Mabanglo, together with First District Congresswoman Maricar Zamora-Mabanglo and Mayor Cesar Colina Sr., embarked on a scenic tour of Maragusan’s natural wonders, including the majestic Pyalitan Falls—one of the town’s most treasured eco-tourism gems.
According to Municipal Tourism Officer Joeffer S. Bebat, Governor Mabanglo made history as the first provincial governor to personally scale Pyalitan Falls, demonstrating not only his adventurous spirit but also his deep commitment to restoring Maragusan’s status on the tourism map.
“Let us bring Maragusan back to the tourism map. That is our goal,” Gov. Mabanglo declared, calling on the public to visit and support the town’s tourism efforts.
Congresswoman Maricar Zamora-Mabanglo echoed this vision, stressing the town’s readiness to reclaim its position as a top-tier tourist destination.
“This, I think, is the right time for Maragusan to rebirth itself. Maragusan has all the potential… we see this as the gateway to tourism development,” she said.
Mayor Colina, meanwhile, expressed gratitude and optimism as both government and private sectors begin working hand-in-hand to revive the local tourism industry.
“The future of Maragusan tourism is clearer than ever,” the mayor remarked.
The visit also became a venue for strategic dialogue, where local department heads and prospective private investors discussed collaborative steps to ensure the sustainable development of Maragusan’s natural attractions.
Rediscovering Nature’s Bounty
Nestled in the highlands of Davao de Oro, Maragusan boasts a cool climate and is home to lush mountain ranges, cascading waterfalls, fertile valleys, and rare flora—including the world-renowned Rafflesia, known as the largest flower in the world.
Nature lovers, adventure seekers, and cultural enthusiasts will find much to explore and appreciate in Maragusan’s pristine landscapes, where every trail leads to a new discovery and every destination tells a story of natural beauty and community pride.
