TAGUIG CITY, July 10, 2025 — In a strategic move to tackle persistent energy issues and promote sustainable development, Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman visited a prototype power plant utilizing Napier Grass as a renewable energy source in Taguig City.

The learning visit is part of the Isabela City government’s broader initiative to explore innovative and eco-friendly energy solutions that could help stabilize power supply, reduce carbon emissions, and generate green jobs back home.

Mayor Turabin-Hataman was given a comprehensive tour of the facility, a flagship project of Green Renewable Energy, which has been drawing nationwide interest for its use of Napier Grass—a fast-growing and environment-friendly biomass crop—as a viable energy source. The facility aims to provide clean, community-based energy production while supporting local agriculture.

During the tour, Mayor Turabin-Hataman engaged in technical discussions with Fibertech Secura RE Corp. Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Engr. Danny Manayaga and other project developers, focusing on the plant’s operational capacity, its suitability for replication in island communities, and its potential to improve energy security in underserved areas.

“We are in constant pursuit of solutions that can provide long-term benefits to our people,” the mayor said. “This initiative reflects our commitment to reducing brownouts in Isabela City and ensuring that economic activities are not disrupted by unstable power supply.”

The visit also aligned with the city’s mission to empower local farmers through climate-smart and sustainable technologies. Cultivating Napier Grass for biomass energy could open new income opportunities for rural communities, while contributing to the city’s environmental goals.

Mayor Turabin-Hataman was joined by a multi-sectoral delegation that included Prof. Maoi Arroyo of Sulo Barakah Ventures, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Officer (LEDIPO) Chief Jaime Juanito Rivera, and CSO Desk and IP Affairs Focal Person Norhaiya Macusang.

As the city government studies the feasibility of adopting Napier Grass energy technology in Isabela City, Mayor Turabin-Hataman continues to push for bold and innovative actions to secure a self-reliant, green, and inclusive future.

“This is not just about power generation,” she added. “It’s about powering progress—sustainably and equitably—for all Isabeleños.”
