President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat – A police officer was shot and killed by his own mother-in-law following a heated domestic altercation in Barangay Poblacion, President Quirino, late Wednesday night, June 25.

The victim was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Bobby Nanali, 37, a member of the President Quirino Municipal Police Station. According to town police chief Major Aljun Besario, Nanali was married and a resident of the area.

Initial investigation revealed that Nanali and his wife engaged in a serious argument around 10:00 p.m. inside their home. The confrontation escalated into a struggle over the officer’s service firearm. His wife reportedly managed to seize the gun and immediately handed it to her mother, who was present during the incident.

The officer then went to the garage, but was followed by both his wife and mother-in-law. It was there that the mother-in-law allegedly shot him, hitting him in the lower chest. The bullet exited through his back.

Emergency responders from the President Quirino Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed Nanali to the hospital, but he was declared dead shortly after arrival.

The suspect is now in the custody of the President Quirino police as the investigation continues. Authorities have yet to release the names of the wife and the mother-in-law pending further inquiry.

The local police force is in mourning, describing Nanali as a dedicated and outstanding officer. He had previously received several commendations and medals for his excellence in service.

Police Chief Besario assured the public that justice will be served, stating that they are thoroughly examining all angles of the case.
