DATU ABDULLAH SANGKI & SHARIFF AGUAK, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR — June 24, 2025 — Law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended two of the most wanted criminals in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) during separate joint operations under the intensified campaign of OPLAN PAGTUGIS.
In Barangay Kaya-Kaya, Datu Abdullah Sangki, authorities captured a notorious ISIS-linked criminal identified through multiple aliases: “Abu Usama,” “Junard Darino,” “Jayrol Darino,” and “Usman Abdullah.” A priority target of regional and national security forces, the suspect faces multiple non-bailable charges including three counts of murder (Criminal Case Nos. 6573-21, 6359-20, 6572-21), illegal possession of explosives (Criminal Case Nos. 7123-22, 7124-22), illegal possession of firearms (Criminal Case No. 7122-22), and carnapping with violence or intimidation (Criminal Case No. 6744-21).
Intelligence reports identified “Abu Usama” as a founding member of the Dawlah Islamiyah – Socksargen Khatiba/Maguid Group, and later a key operative of the DI-Hassan faction. He was also associated with the Abdul Halim Sansawi Carnapping Group, an organized crime syndicate allegedly funding terror operations across Region 12 and Maguindanao del Sur.
His arrest was made possible through a collaborative effort led by the CIDG Maguindanao PFU with support from multiple police and intelligence units, including Datu Abdullah Sangki MPS, PNP-SAF, 85th Special Action Company, RIAT, CTU-RID BAR, and other regional units. He is now in CIDG custody awaiting court proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Poblacion II, Shariff Aguak, another high-profile suspect listed as the Region’s Top 7 and Provincial Top 3 Most Wanted Person, was also arrested during a separate operation at around 5:40 PM. The suspect had a standing warrant of arrest for murder under Criminal Case No. SA-1228, issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 15 of the 12th Judicial Region.
The operation was executed by combined forces of the Shariff Aguak MPS, Maguindanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, PIU, 2nd PMFC, CIDG RFU BAR, and several regional intelligence units. The suspect was already under custody at the Shariff Aguak MPS when the warrant was formally served. He was properly informed of his constitutional rights.
Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO BAR, commended the collective efforts of the operating teams in both arrests.
“These operations underscore our unyielding commitment to bring fugitives and terror-linked criminals to justice. With the strong leadership of our Chief PNP, PGen Nicolas D. Torre III, we will continue our focused law enforcement actions to uphold the rule of law and ensure peace across the Bangsamoro region,” said PBGEN De Guzman.
Authorities reaffirm that these successes highlight the strength of inter-agency coordination in confronting terrorism and organized crime in BARMM.
