Lanao del Sur — June 24, 2025 — In a strong show of support for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) intensified campaign against loose firearms, two separate voluntary surrenders of unregistered guns took place on June 24 in the municipalities of Marogong and Piagapo.
At around 7:40 AM in Barangay Bagumbayan, Marogong, the Barangay Chairwoman turned over one unit of a Caliber .357 Smith & Wesson revolver, which had no serial number, along with ammunition. The firearm was reportedly surrendered to her by a constituent who opted to remain anonymous. The local official then immediately handed it over to authorities from the Marogong Municipal Police Station.
Later that morning, at approximately 9:55 AM, personnel from the Piagapo Municipal Police Station, during a barangay visitation in Brgy. Rantian, also received one unit of Caliber .38 revolver with serial number 32726. The firearm, which came without ammunition, was voluntarily turned in by a concerned local resident who likewise chose not to be identified.
These actions form part of the broader efforts of the PNP to curb the spread of illegal and unregistered firearms in communities — a vital step toward maintaining peace and order in Lanao del Sur.
Authorities commended the cooperation of both community leaders and private citizens for their continued support in promoting safety and security. The PNP encourages others in possession of unlicensed firearms to follow suit and aid in creating gun-responsible communities.
