Cagayan de Oro City — The Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) has officially concluded its enforcement of the nationwide gun ban in connection with the 2025 National and Local Elections, recording notable accomplishments in the region from January 12 to June 11, 2025.

Over the course of the five-month election period, PRO10 arrested 112 individuals for violating the gun ban and confiscated 104 assorted firearms. Authorities also recovered 795 rounds of ammunition across various provinces in Northern Mindanao.

The gun ban, implemented by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), aimed to prevent election-related violence and maintain peace and order during the electoral season.

PBGen Jaysen C. De Guzman, PRO10 Regional Director, lauded the efforts of police units in strictly enforcing the gun ban and contributing to the safe conduct of the elections.

“Although the gun ban has officially ended, carrying firearms without proper documentation remains strictly prohibited,” De Guzman said. “The conclusion of the COMELEC gun ban does not give anyone the right to possess or carry firearms unlawfully.”

PRO10 continues to remind the public that all gun owners must comply with national laws, including the possession of a valid License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) and a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR). Firearms found in the possession of individuals without these documents will be deemed illegal and subject to confiscation and legal action.

“We urge all residents of Northern Mindanao to be responsible gun owners,” De Guzman added. “All firearms must have complete and valid documents to avoid legal consequences and prevent their misuse in criminal activities.”

The police also encouraged the public to report individuals found in possession of undocumented or illegal firearms to the nearest police stations.

With the electoral period over, PRO10 reiterates its commitment to upholding public safety and ensuring that the rule of law is observed throughout the region.
