CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Authorities arrested a high-value individual (HVI) linked to the illegal drug trade during a buy-bust operation early Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, in this city.
The successful operation was conducted by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 10 (PDEA-10).
At around 6:20 a.m., operatives apprehended the suspect, known by the alias “Jandy,” at an inn located in Barangay 32, Cagayan de Oro City. The 39-year-old male suspect, a resident of Barangay Malagana, Claveria, Misamis Oriental, has a history of drug-related offenses.
According to police records, “Jandy” was first arrested in 2016 on charges of violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. He was released in 2017 through a plea bargaining agreement. In 2019, he was arrested again on a similar case and released in 2024.
Intelligence reports revealed that the suspect frequently used inns within the city as venues to transact illegal drug deals.
During the operation, authorities confiscated eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing an estimated 55 grams of suspected shabu, valued at approximately ₱374,000. Also seized were a loaded caliber .22 revolver with three live rounds, an Android phone, a digital weighing scale, and a marked ₱500 bill used as buy-bust money.
“Jandy” is currently in the custody of the City Drug Enforcement Unit and is set to face multiple charges, including violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of R.A. No. 9165, R.A. No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Gun Ban.
Police Brigadier General Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, lauded the efforts of the operatives involved in the operation, emphasizing the region’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs and related criminal activities.
