ZAMBOANGA CITY — A suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and Urban Terrorist Group (UTG) was arrested in a joint intelligence operation conducted early morning on May 31, 2025, in Barangay Muti, Zamboanga City.
Law enforcement units, led by the Regional Intelligence Division (RID9) and the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), executed a search warrant against the suspect, identified only by the alias “Isnaji,” for alleged violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act 9156 or the Unlawful Possession of Explosives Act.
Authorities said “Isnaji,” a resident of Purok 4, is suspected to be an active ASG/UTG member involved in multiple criminal activities, including gun-running, illegal drug trade, and participation in several kidnappings and killings linked to terrorist operations in the region.
The search resulted in the seizure of several high-powered firearms and explosives, adding further weight to suspicions regarding his terrorist affiliations and ongoing illicit activities.
Police officials said the operation was part of the continuing efforts of the ZCPO and partner agencies to neutralize threats from criminal and extremist groups.
“This successful operation highlights our unwavering commitment to protecting the people of Zamboanga City. We will not allow terrorism to take root in our communities,” the ZCPO stated in an official release.
The suspect is currently in police custody pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
