Arakan, Cotabato — The Cotabato Police Provincial Office, under the leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Gilberto B. Tuzon, has commended the personnel of the Arakan Municipal Police Station and its supporting units for their professionalism and bravery during two high-risk operations conducted on the evening of April 25, 2025, in Sitio Talaytay, Barangay Malibatuan, Arakan, Cotabato.
The operations targeted two individuals accused of violating Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives). Authorities seized various illegal items during the operations, including a hand grenade, a UZI 9mm firearm, and assorted ammunition.
One of the operations escalated when the subject fired upon responding officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Despite immediate efforts to provide medical assistance, the suspect sustained fatal injuries.
In an official statement, PCOL Tuzon expressed full support for the operating teams and urged the public to remain critical amid the spread of misinformation regarding the incident.
“While we understand the pain and grief of losing a loved one, we must also acknowledge the danger posed to our communities when individuals possess illegal firearms and respond violently to lawful police operations,” Tuzon said. “Everything that transpired during the implementation of the search warrants was properly documented, witnessed by barangay officials and members of the media, and recorded on video for transparency and accountability.”
PCOL Tuzon emphasized that the successful operations highlight the PNP’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Cotabato communities.
“These weapons could have ended up being used in violent crimes. We’re grateful to our personnel for acting immediately and lawfully,” he added. “Let us not be deceived by misleading narratives aimed at discrediting the PNP—our duty is to uphold the law and ensure the welfare of the majority. We stand by our men and women who risk their lives daily to serve with honor and integrity. Sa lahat ng ating kababayan, ang tagumpay na ito ay para sa inyo.”
The Cotabato Police Provincial Office reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the public against threats to safety and security.
