DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — Authorities from the Police Regional Office of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PROBAR) arrested two suspects involved in cigarette smuggling during an operation conducted in Barangay Dinaig Proper over the weekend.
Seized from the suspects were 100 boxes of various cigarette brands, with an estimated value of P2 million.
The operation was led by the National Bureau of Investigation – BARMM, in coordination with the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station, the Provincial Intelligence Unit of Maguindanao del Norte, and the 1404th Alpha Mobile Force Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14-A.
The suspects, identified only by their aliases Jamil and Juhib, are residents of Barangay Poblacion, Jolo, Sulu.
They will face charges for violating Republic Act 4712 or the Tariff and Customs Code, the Tax Reform Act, and Republic Act 10643 or the Graphic Health Warning Law.
The confiscated contraband is now in the custody of the NBI-BARMM.
PROBAR Director Police Brigadier General Romeo Macapaz commended the successful operation and assured the public of the continued efforts against illegal activities in the region.
