DUMINGAG, Zamboanga del Sur — A grim discovery along a national highway in Dumingag town has sparked an intensive police investigation after an unidentified man was found dead with his hands bound behind his back in the early hours of Monday, August 3, 2026.
The victim was discovered lying face down in a grassy area along the roadside in Purok 2, Barangay Dulop, wearing a navy blue T-shirt and brown shorts. Investigators noted that both of his hands had been tied behind his back using a cable tie, raising suspicions that he may have been the victim of a violent crime.
Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) immediately processed the area while investigators from the Dumingag Municipal Police Station launched a thorough investigation to determine the victim’s identity, the cause of death, and the individuals responsible for the incident.

Hours after news of the incident circulated online, several social media users claimed that the victim was Joseph Lajada, allegedly a resident of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, located roughly 50 kilometers from the scene where the body was found.
Some posts further alleged that Lajada was a person living with a mental disability and speculated that he had been abducted, killed, and his body dumped in the grassy roadside area.
However, these claims have not been confirmed by the Philippine National Police. Authorities have not yet verified the identity of the victim, nor have they confirmed the circumstances surrounding his death, possible motive, or any suspects.
Investigators are expected to coordinate with police units in neighboring municipalities and provinces, including Zamboanga del Norte, to verify reports circulating on social media and determine whether the information is accurate.
Investigation Continues
The condition in which the victim was found—his hands restrained and body abandoned beside the highway—has led investigators to consider the possibility that the crime may have occurred elsewhere before the body was left in Barangay Dulop. Police, however, emphasized that no conclusions should be drawn until all forensic evidence has been examined.
Authorities are reviewing available evidence, gathering witness accounts, and tracing the victim’s identity in hopes of reconstructing the events leading to his death.
Police are also urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activities in the vicinity of Barangay Dulop or who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
