MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — A woman was rescued alive after she was found on the steep cliffside below the View Deck along the national highway in Barangay Badas, Mati City on the evening of June 25, following a swift rescue operation by local emergency responders.

According to the Mati City Police Station, authorities received information at around 7 p.m. that a woman was stranded on the rocky slope beneath the popular View Deck overlooking Pujada Bay. Responding personnel immediately rushed to the scene and mounted a rescue operation.

The victim was identified as Sheila Bauyot, a single former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and a resident of Mati City.

Personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), led by Charlie Bagasol, worked alongside responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) headed by SIINSP Elizabeth Capiña and officers of the Mati City Police Station to safely retrieve the woman from the cliffside.

Despite the incident, rescuers found the victim conscious when they reached her. She was immediately brought to the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center for medical treatment and further evaluation.

Police have yet to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and continue to investigate how the woman ended up on the cliffside below the View Deck.

During the initial investigation, authorities interviewed the victim’s former partner, identified only by the alias “Raymund.” He told investigators that they had separated several months ago and that the victim may have been experiencing family-related problems. Police said this remains only one of several possible angles being examined and has not been established as the cause of the incident.

Investigators are now gathering additional statements and evidence while awaiting a more detailed spot report to establish the complete sequence of events.

The successful rescue underscored the coordinated response of the city’s emergency services, whose timely action ensured the woman was safely recovered and given immediate medical attention.

Authorities have not yet released further information regarding the victim’s condition as the investigation remains ongoing.
