IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — A heated dispute between siblings ended in violence after one brother allegedly stabbed the other during an altercation in Purok Scorpion, Barangay Buluan, Ipil, on Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2026.
According to a report from the Ipil Municipal Police Station (MPS), authorities received a call from a concerned citizen at around 5:50 p.m. regarding a stabbing incident in the area. Responding police officers immediately proceeded to the scene, where the suspect, an adult male, had already been restrained and placed under the custody of Barangay Buluan officials.
Initial police investigation revealed that both the suspect and the victim are residents of Barangay Gango in the municipality of RT Lim. Authorities said the two brothers became involved in a heated argument stemming from personal and family-related issues.
Investigators learned that during the confrontation, the victim allegedly punched the suspect. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly left the area and went to the residence of an acquaintance in Barangay Buluan. However, the victim allegedly followed him, leading to another confrontation.
During the second altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a bladed weapon locally known as a “pinuti,” which he had tucked into his waist, and stabbed the victim in the right arm.
The injured victim was immediately transported to the Dr. George T. Hofer Medical Center for medical treatment. Authorities did not immediately disclose the extent of the victim’s injuries but confirmed that he survived the attack and received prompt medical attention.
Meanwhile, the suspect was taken into custody and brought to the Ipil Municipal Police Station for proper disposition and the filing of appropriate criminal charges.
Police investigators said that a long-standing personal grudge or resentment was identified as the primary motive behind the violent encounter.
The incident underscores how unresolved family conflicts can escalate into serious acts of violence. Authorities continue to investigate the case as legal proceedings against the suspect are being prepared.
