JOSEFINA, Zamboanga del Sur — A 40-year-old public school teacher was arrested during an anti-drug operation in Josefina town after authorities allegedly recovered suspected shabu, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia from his residence early Wednesday morning, June 24.

The suspect, a resident of Barangay Upper Bag-ong Tudela and listed by authorities as a High-Value Individual (HVI), was apprehended during the implementation of a court-issued search warrant at around 5:30 a.m. in Purok Anonang.

The operation was carried out by personnel of the Josefina Municipal Police Station (MPS) under the leadership of Police Lieutenant Julito T. Pamalaran, officer-in-charge, in coordination with the 1st Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st ZSPMFC), the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Intelligence Unit (ZSPIU), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 9.

Authorities served a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 8 in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur for alleged violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

During the search, law enforcement operatives reportedly recovered five sachets containing suspected shabu, five live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, various drug paraphernalia, and an Android cellular phone believed to be relevant to the investigation.

The seizure of the illegal substances and other evidence formed the basis for the suspect’s arrest and possible filing of criminal charges.

Following the operation, the suspect was brought to the Josefina Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and legal processing. The confiscated evidence was also secured and subjected to inventory procedures in accordance with anti-drug operation protocols.

Police said the seized items will be presented before the court that issued the search warrant before being turned over to the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Forensic Unit for qualitative and quantitative examination. The forensic analysis will determine the exact composition and weight of the suspected illegal drugs, which are crucial pieces of evidence in the prosecution of drug-related cases.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the estimated street value of the confiscated substances, pending laboratory examination.

The arrest has drawn attention due to the suspect’s profession as a public school teacher, a position entrusted with shaping and guiding young learners. Law enforcement officials emphasized that anti-drug operations are conducted regardless of a person’s status or occupation, underscoring the government’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs.

Investigators are continuing to gather additional information to determine the extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities and whether other individuals may be connected to the case.

The suspect remains under police custody while authorities prepare the necessary charges and await the results of the forensic examination. Under Philippine law, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
