MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — A 41-year-old driver was injured after an unidentified assailant allegedly attempted to kill him in Barangay Biaba Damag, Marawi City, on the evening of June 3, 2026, authorities reported.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Ansary,” is married and a resident of Barangay Payawan in the municipality of Baloi, Lanao del Norte.

According to a report from the Marawi City Police Station (MCPS), a concerned citizen alerted authorities about the incident at around 6:58 p.m. Police personnel immediately responded under the leadership of PLTCOL Muhiddin G. Pagayawan, Chief of Police.

Records showed that responding officers departed the police station at approximately 7:00 p.m. and arrived at the crime scene six minutes later, at around 7:06 p.m., to assess the situation and conduct an initial investigation.

The victim sustained injuries as a result of the attack and was immediately transported to the nearest hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have yet to disclose the extent of his injuries as of this writing.

Police investigators are currently pursuing leads to identify and locate the suspect, who fled the area following the incident. The motive behind the attempted killing remains unclear and is still under investigation.

The attack has raised concerns among residents in the area, prompting law enforcement authorities to intensify efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime and prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Authorities have urged anyone with information that may help identify the suspect or shed light on the incident to coordinate with the Marawi City Police Station.

The MCPS assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that all available evidence and witness accounts are being examined to establish the facts of the case and bring those responsible to justice.

Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
