PADADA, Davao del Sur — A woman was injured after being repeatedly shot by unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects Friday evening, May 22, in Purok 2, Barangay Southern Paligue, Padada, Davao del Sur.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Fe,” remains confined at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital where she is currently under medical observation. Authorities said her condition is now stable following emergency treatment.

According to the Padada Municipal Police Station, the shooting incident happened at around 7:57 p.m. while the victim was onboard a “payong-payong” tricycle together with a witness identified as alias “Ritchie,” heading toward Barangay Punta Piape.

Initial police investigation revealed that the witness noticed a black Rusi motorcycle carrying two unidentified men trailing behind their vehicle moments before the attack.

Upon reaching the Kawayan area in Barangay Southern Paligue, the back rider allegedly pulled out a firearm and repeatedly shot the victim at close range.

After the attack, the suspects immediately fled toward an undetermined direction.

Responding personnel from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed the wounded victim to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital for immediate medical attention.

Police authorities said officers immediately responded to the area despite difficulties caused by the remote location and poor communication signal in the barangay.

The Padada Municipal Police Station has since launched a hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the suspects behind the shooting.

Investigators are also conducting a deeper probe to determine the motive behind the attack and possible persons involved in the crime.

As of this writing, authorities have yet to identify the gunmen or establish the motive behind the ambush-style shooting.
