DAVAO CITY – Authorities intercepted a bus passenger carrying a concealed firearm at a checkpoint in Barangay Lasang, Davao City at around 6:30 AM on June 7, 2025, thanks to advanced scanner technology installed at the city’s main entry point.

The suspect, identified only as alias “Jerome,” a 36-year-old resident of Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, was on board a bus bound for the Davao City center when his luggage was flagged during routine scanning conducted by Task Force Davao (TF-Davao) and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).

Upon inspection, authorities discovered a .357 Infinity SV firearm with a magazine loaded with seven bullets. The suspect will face charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and the COMELEC gun ban, which is currently in effect.

The successful interception highlights the effectiveness of Davao City’s enhanced security measures, particularly the use of mounted scanners at major entry points—making it the only city in the Philippines with such equipment fully operational. This technological advancement not only boosts the city’s security but also proves that Davao City is putting its peace and order budget to good use.

City officials and law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to cooperate with security protocols and remain vigilant to ensure the safety of everyone entering and residing in Davao City.
