DAVAO CITY — A tragic accident claimed the lives of four individuals after a 10-wheeler wing van truck lost control and plowed into several vehicles before crashing into a gymnasium in Barangay Marilog Proper, Marilog District, on Saturday morning, April 11, 2026.

According to the Davao City Police Office, the incident occurred at approximately 10:09 a.m., prompting an immediate response from authorities following a distress call relayed through Central 911.

Initial reports revealed that the speeding truck first rammed into multiple parked vehicles before continuing its path of destruction and slamming into a portion of the Marilog covered court, where an activity was reportedly ongoing at the time.

All four victims were declared dead on the spot. They included the truck driver, his passenger or pahinante, and two bystanders who were caught in the vehicle’s path. As of press time, authorities have yet to release the identities of the fatalities pending proper identification and notification of their families.

Responding units from the Marilog Police Station, Central 911, and local rescue teams from Sambunotan immediately conducted retrieval and clearing operations at the crash site. Emergency responders worked swiftly to secure the area and prevent further casualties.

Witnesses at the scene pointed to a possible tire blowout as the cause of the accident, which may have led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. This was supported by initial findings from investigators, although authorities emphasized that a thorough probe is still underway to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors.

The Philippine National Police in Marilog has assured the public that a full investigation is being conducted, including mechanical inspection of the truck and collection of witness statements, to establish accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and vehicle maintenance, particularly for heavy trucks traversing mountainous and populated areas.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and to exercise extreme caution, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity.
