DATU SAUDI AMPATUAN, Maguindanao del Sur — A man was shot dead by an unidentified gunman on Tuesday evening, March 17, in the municipality of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, in yet another violent incident reported in the province during the observance of the holy month of Ramadan.

Initial reports from authorities said the victim was identified as Jonathan Endo, also known by the alias “Al.” He was fatally shot by a still unidentified suspect in an attack that occurred along a yet-to-be-specified area in the municipality late Tuesday night.

Police investigators said the gunman immediately fled the scene after the shooting, leaving the victim critically wounded. Responders rushed to assist Endo, but he was declared dead due to the severity of the gunshot wounds.

The identity of the suspect remains unknown as of this writing, and no arrest has been made.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) in the area has launched an ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing. Authorities are currently gathering witness accounts, reviewing possible evidence from the scene, and pursuing leads that may help identify the perpetrator.

Investigators are also looking into several possible angles, including personal conflict or other motives behind the attack. However, police said it is still too early to establish a clear motive.

The fatal shooting adds to a series of violent incidents reported in parts of the Bangsamoro region, even as Muslim communities observe Ramadan, a sacred period marked by prayer, reflection, and peace.

Local authorities have urged residents who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could help identify the suspect to coordinate with the police to aid the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, police assured the public that efforts are underway to track down the gunman and bring the perpetrator to justice.
