TALIPAO, Sulu — In a strong demonstration of unity and community cooperation, the 41st Infantry “Partner for Peace” Battalion successfully facilitated the voluntary surrender of six loose firearms in the municipality of Talipao on May 26, 2026, further advancing efforts to build safer, gun-free, and peace-centered communities in the province of Sulu.

The initiative was spearheaded by Lieutenant Colonel Genesis R. Gabrido, Commanding Officer of the 41st Infantry Battalion, together with Captain Angelo A. Yadao, Battalion Executive Officer and Operations Officer, and First Lieutenant Christian E. Villa, Commanding Officer of Charlie Company.

Military officials said the successful surrender was the result of sustained community engagement, dialogue, and partnership-building between government forces and local residents. Under the leadership of 1LT Villa, Charlie Company worked closely with barangay officials, community leaders, and residents in encouraging individuals to peacefully surrender unlicensed firearms in support of the government’s peace and security campaign.

Authorities confirmed that all surrendered firearms were properly documented, secured, and processed in accordance with existing operational and legal procedures.

The campaign also gained strong backing from the Local Government Unit of Talipao headed by Mayor Hja Reham Tulawie and Vice Mayor Nivocadnezar Tulawie. Local officials emphasized their continued commitment to maintaining peace, strengthening public safety, and supporting initiatives that reduce the presence of loose firearms in communities vulnerable to violence and armed conflict.

The Talipao Municipal Police Station also played a crucial role in the activity under the leadership of PLTC Anibersaryo, represented during the activity by PLT Hja Meriam C. Radjuli. Police authorities highlighted the importance of cooperation between the military, police, local government units, and civilians in sustaining peace and order across the municipality.

The voluntary surrender of firearms was described by military officials as more than just compliance with the law, noting that it reflects the growing trust and confidence of residents in government peace initiatives and conflict-resolution efforts.

Officials stressed that every firearm surrendered represents one less weapon that could potentially be used in violence and serves as another step toward unity, stability, and long-term peace in Sulu.

The 41st Infantry Battalion reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with communities and stakeholders, emphasizing that genuine peace is achieved not only through military and security operations, but also through dialogue, cooperation, mutual understanding, and collective action among all sectors of society.
