TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — A 33-year-old foreign national was confirmed dead following a drowning incident at Mahayag Beach Resort in Barangay Buenavista, Tandag City, authorities reported.

The victim, identified as Michal Radoslow, a citizen of the United Kingdom, reportedly drowned on Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026, after being caught in strong ocean currents while swimming with his partner, Julie Ann Adubas.

According to initial reports, the couple was spending time at the beach with Adubas’ family as part of a farewell gathering. Radoslow was scheduled to return to England in the coming days. What was meant to be a simple and joyful send-off, however, turned into a tragic loss.

Rescue and retrieval operations were immediately launched after a concerned citizen reported the incident at around 2:00 p.m. Responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, barangay officials, and volunteers worked alongside the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station in Tandag to locate the missing swimmer.

Search efforts continued for nearly two days despite rough seas and unfavorable weather conditions. Authorities said strong waves and limited visibility hampered the operations.

The victim’s body was recovered at around 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in nearby waters. He was later declared dead by authorities.

Family members confirmed that Julie Ann Adubas also passed away at around 3:00 p.m. on February 15, 2026, following the incident. Relatives described the loss as deeply painful, noting that both victims were caught in circumstances beyond their control.

In a message shared through local sources, the family appealed to the public to respect their privacy during this period of mourning. They also urged netizens to refrain from spreading unverified information or insensitive commentary that could further harm the dignity of those who passed away.

“They are both victims of this tragedy,” the family said. “We ask for understanding, compassion, and respect as we grieve.”

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning. While no foul play is suspected, officials are reviewing safety conditions and response procedures at the beach resort.

Local officials also reminded the public to exercise caution when swimming, especially in areas known for strong currents and changing sea conditions.

“Even experienced swimmers can be placed in danger by sudden shifts in the ocean,” a responder said. “Beachgoers are urged to follow safety guidelines and advisories at all times.”

The local government and the victim’s family expressed gratitude to all agencies and volunteers who took part in the search and rescue efforts, recognizing their dedication and tireless work under difficult conditions.

As the community mourns, residents remember Radoslow as someone who came to Tandag City to spend meaningful time with loved ones, unaware that it would be his final journey.

The tragedy serves as a solemn reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of vigilance when enjoying coastal areas. Funeral and repatriation arrangements are now being coordinated by the family with the help of relevant authorities.
