CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – An active member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) from San Fernando, Bukidnon, was arrested in a coordinated anti-illegal drug operation conducted by personnel of Police Station 1 (PS1) Divisoria early this morning, February 19, 2026.

The suspect, identified by authorities as alias “Sargent”, a corporal assigned to the 88th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and a resident of Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando, Bukidnon, was apprehended at an inn located along Capistrano-Cruz Taal Street, Barangay 7, Cagayan de Oro City.
Police reports indicate that Sargent was in the company of a female companion at the time of the operation. Both were taken into custody and are now under investigation for their alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.
“The arrest was made during a meticulously planned buy-bust operation targeting known drug personalities in the area,” said a PS1 Divisoria official. “The suspect, being an active military personnel, will face charges related to the sale and possession of illegal drugs under Philippine law.”
Authorities emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in Cagayan de Oro City, particularly involving individuals who hold positions of trust and authority.
The apprehension of an active-duty soldier marks a significant development in local anti-drug enforcement efforts, signaling intensified coordination between law enforcement and military oversight bodies. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and to identify possible accomplices.
Officials confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody while the case is being processed, and further legal proceedings will follow.
