LANAO DEL SUR — A potentially deadly explosive device was safely recovered during a joint security operation in Barangay China Town, Malabang, Lanao del Sur on January 17, 2026, authorities reported.

Personnel from the 4th Special Action Battalion (4SAB) provided police response support to the Malabang Municipal Police Station (MPS) following information received from a concerned citizen. Acting swiftly on the tip, operatives conducted a coordinated operation that led to the recovery of one high explosive (HE) rifle grenade in the area.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and technicians from the 153rd Special Action Company (153SAC) and the Force Support Battalion (FSB) immediately assessed the ordnance and declared it unsafe and unstable, posing a serious risk to nearby residents. Authorities secured the site and implemented safety protocols to prevent any accidental detonation.

The recovered unexploded ordnance (UXO) was safely transported to the 1101st Infantry Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army, for proper documentation and final disposition in accordance with established procedures.

Police officials said the successful recovery highlights the importance of community cooperation and inter-agency coordination in preventing security threats. The operation also underscores the continued vigilance of the Philippine National Police in safeguarding lives and maintaining peace and order in Lanao del Sur.
