Brgy. Campo Uno, Lamitan City, Basilan – January 9, 2026 – In a decisive move to strengthen peace and security in Basilan, barangay chairpersons from Hadji Mohammad Ajul Municipality voluntarily surrendered ten (10) loose high-powered firearms to the 18th Infantry (Deo Et Patria) Battalion (18IB) of the Philippine Army.



The turnover ceremony, facilitated by CPT Zaldy Mark Encina, Company Commander of Charlie Company, 18IB, was held at the 18IB Headquarters in Brgy. Campo Uno, Lamitan City. The event highlighted the commitment of local leaders to support government initiatives aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons.
LTC Caro, commanding officer of the 18IB, commended the barangay chairpersons for their proactive stance. “We commend the barangay chairpersons of Hadji Mohammad Ajul Municipality for their initiative in promoting peace and security. Their voluntary surrender of these firearms reflects their dedication to creating a safer environment for their constituents,” he said.
The surrender is part of the 18IB’s ongoing campaign against loose firearms under the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Program. LTC Caro emphasized that this effort underscores the importance of collaboration between the military, local government units, and community stakeholders in addressing security concerns.
“The voluntary surrender is a testament to the power of cooperation and the shared desire for lasting peace in Basilan,” LTC Caro added. The 18IB reaffirmed its commitment to working with local leaders to maintain a secure and stable environment for all residents in the province.
