ARAKAN, COTABATO — A fun family outing nearly turned into tragedy when a young child drowned at a resort in Barangay Badiangon, Arakan — but thanks to the swift and life-saving response of a nurse from Kidapawan City, the child was brought back from the brink.

The rescuer was identified as Nurse Donna C. Reyes-Avena, who by chance was at the resort when the emergency happened. According to witnesses, the child was unconscious when pulled out of the water, prompting Reyes-Avena to immediately perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Moments later, the child slowly regained breathing and began to cry — a sign of revived vital signs — drawing relief from worried onlookers.

Rescuers rushed the child to the Rural Health Unit of Arakan before being referred to Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Amas for further medical care. Doctors continue to observe the child’s condition while the family expressed heartfelt gratitude for the nurse’s heroic intervention.

Witnesses and netizens praised Reyes-Avena for her quick action and professionalism, crediting her CPR skills for saving the child’s life in a critical moment.
