BAROBO, Surigao del Sur — A land broker was wounded in a shooting incident triggered by a heated altercation over a fence in Sitio Panaraga, Barangay Unidad, Barobo, on Friday afternoon, December 12, 2025. Police arrested four suspects at the scene and recovered a .45-caliber pistol believed to have been used in the attack.
The victim, identified as alias “Nenel,” 50, a land broker and resident of Barangay Lago, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen at around 5:00 p.m. According to police, the incident stemmed from a confrontation after the victim allegedly attempted to remove a fence, escalating into a violent dispute.
Barobo Municipal Police Station (MPS) received a report at about 5:15 p.m. from an intelligence operative of the Tagbina MPS. Responding officers led by PMSg Anjun A. Bandoy, under the supervision of PMAJ Ralph Alexis O. Avenido, ACOP, arrived at the scene around 6:00 p.m. to conduct an ocular investigation.
Based on the statement of the victim’s companion, identified as Diosdado, 42, of Poblacion, Barobo, the argument intensified moments before gunfire erupted, striking the victim in the abdomen. Despite his injury, the victim managed to flee the area, drive himself to F.P. Urbiztondo Medical Hospital, Inc. in Poblacion, Barobo, and seek immediate medical attention.
Police arrested four suspects at the scene and apprised them of their constitutional rights under the Miranda Warning and the Anti-Torture Law. The suspects were identified as: alias “Tyas,” 63, self-employed, of Purok 5, Lianga; alias “Jon,” 50, a member of the Philippine Army’s CAFGU Active Auxiliary, of Purok 2, St. Christine, Lianga; and alias “Chardo,” 50, also a CAFGU Active Auxiliary member, of Purok 5, Ganayon, Lianga. (Police noted that one name appeared twice in the initial report.)
Authorities recovered one ARMSCOR caliber .45 pistol loaded with one chambered round and five rounds in the magazine from inside a Toyota Fortuner at the crime scene.
The suspects and seized evidence were brought to the Barobo MPS for proper documentation and disposition as appropriate criminal charges are being prepared. Police said the investigation is ongoing to determine individual participation and to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
