SOCORRO, Surigao del Norte — A wave of grief struck Barangay Navarro after a man was found dead inside his home on Saturday morning, December 13, 2025, in what authorities described as an apparent case of suicide.
Police identified the deceased as Rodrigo Palma Banaybanay, a resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Navarro. According to a report from the Socorro Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. The victim’s wife told investigators that shortly before the tragedy, Banaybanay asked her to reload his mobile phone so he could contact his children and other relatives.
When the wife returned moments later, she discovered her husband unresponsive inside their home. She immediately sought help, but despite her efforts, Banaybanay could no longer be revived and was later declared dead.
Authorities have not released further details out of respect for the family and are continuing standard documentation procedures. No foul play was indicated in the initial investigation.
The incident has left family members and neighbors shocked, once again highlighting the silent struggles many individuals face behind closed doors.
