Talipao, Sulu — December 17, 2025 — Once a region synonymous with conflict, Sulu is now showcasing a remarkable transformation as the Bud Mana Agri-Tourism Farm takes a major step toward sustainability and community empowerment.

Today marked a milestone for the farm as the MAFAR Sulu team, led by Provincial Director Engr. Alfie U. Iribani, Chief Agriculturist Jun M. Ammak, and Supervising Agriculturists Marbel J. Hayudini and Sarha A. Sangkula, together with the 41st “Partners for Peace” Infantry Battalion under 1LT Joebriggs P. Prado (NF) PA, conducted the final implementation of the Vermi Culture Project.

The project, centered on vermicomposting, is a critical pillar in Bud Mana’s mission to integrate wellness, education, agri-tourism, and livelihood. Beyond sustaining the farm’s core operations, it is designed to serve as a resource for neighboring farmers, further spreading sustainable agricultural practices throughout the Sulu archipelago.

“Today, we are not just nurturing soil; we are nurturing the future of Sulu,” said Engr. Iribani during the ceremonial turnover of the three vermiculture beds to Bud Mana at Upper Sinumaan, Talipao. The ceremony was also graced by Barangay Captain Qadafi Misuali, with staff from the Agriculture Division and members of the local farming association witnessing the historic moment.

The day was also celebrated with a garden-fresh, plant-based meal prepared by Bud Mana volunteers—a symbol of gratitude and a taste of the farm’s sustainable promise. Guests enjoyed plant-based burgers with Bud Mana’s signature sauce, refreshing fruit smoothies, garden salads, vegetarian menudo, and a traditional Kare-Kare meal enhanced with toasted desiccated coconut.

This initiative reflects a broader vision: transforming Sulu from a past overshadowed by terrorism into a model of eco-tourism and sustainable livelihood. With the collaborative support of MAFAR Sulu, the 41st Infantry Battalion, and local partners, Bud Mana is cultivating not just crops, but a greener, more resilient future for the community.

Alhamdulillah and Mabuhay! Sulu’s journey from conflict to community-driven agri-tourism stands as a testament to perseverance, innovation, and hope.
