MAKILALA, COTABATO — The spirit of Christmas shone brightest where hope was needed most as the 39th Infantry (Smash ’Em) Battalion hosted Pamaskong Handog Para sa mga Friends Rescued on December 5, 2025—a heartfelt celebration dedicated to former rebels who have chosen the path of peace.

Held at the 39IB headquarters in Brgy. Poblacion, Makilala, the event brought together government agencies, security forces, and community partners to extend early Christmas cheer to 200 Friends Rescued. Each beneficiary received a Bundle of Joy—packages filled with essential goods, food supplies, and holiday treats intended to ease daily needs and remind them that they are not forgotten this season.
The program was made possible through the support of the Office of the Vice President, represented by Sanlee A. Lacerna, VPSO II of the OVP Southern Mindanao Satellite Office, in close coordination with the 39th Infantry Battalion. Messages of solidarity and encouragement were delivered by officials from the 1002nd Infantry “Bagwis” Brigade, the North Cotabato Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, and the Local Amnesty Board (LAB) Koronadal.
One of the most meaningful highlights of the activity was the ceremonial handover of Safe Conduct Passes to eight Friends Rescued. Facilitated by LAB Koronadal, the passes will allow them to safely return to their communities, reunite with their families, and access government support as they rebuild their lives. The moment symbolized the true essence of Christmas—renewed hope, reconciliation, and the opening of doors toward a peaceful future.
In his message, 39IB Commander LTC Hector A. Estolas, INF (GSC) PA, appealed to those who remain in hiding, including lie-low members of the communist terrorist groups, to return home. He urged them not to let Christmas pass without embracing their families, emphasizing that now is the best time to surrender, rediscover peace, and begin again.
“As we celebrate this season of love and togetherness, may those still out there realize that peace is within reach,” Estolas said, offering a heartfelt call for unity and healing.
The gathering ended on a warm and hopeful note, with gratitude evident on the faces of beneficiaries. Amid the songs, smiles, and shared meals, the event carried a powerful message: that Christmas is not only about gifts, but also about second chances, restored relationships, and the collective pursuit of lasting peace in communities long affected by conflict.
