TUKURAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — A heated confrontation between two brothers turned tragic on Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2025, after a 24-year-old man was stabbed by his elder sibling — who later took his own life inside their home in Purok Roxas, Barangay Curvada.
Police reports from the Tukuran Municipal Police Station revealed that the victim, identified as JB Masong, sustained a serious stab wound to his left back after his older brother, Jayreil Masong, 32, allegedly attacked him in a fit of rage during a family dispute.
Initial investigation showed that the altercation stemmed from the victim merely reprimanding their nephew. The suspect reportedly became angry and pulled out a sharp weapon, stabbing his younger brother before fleeing into their home.
Responding officers and personnel from the Rural Health Unit rushed the victim to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently undergoing treatment. He remains in critical condition, and the family is now facing severe financial difficulties as they try to sustain his medication and hospital needs.
When authorities proceeded to the suspect’s residence to arrest him, they were shocked to discover him hanging from the ceiling using a blanket tied around his neck. Police and medical responders attempted to revive him, but he was declared dead on the scene.
Investigators believe the suspect took his own life due to deep remorse following the stabbing of his brother.
The family requested immediate arrangements for the burial of the suspect, who was found lifeless at around 5:30 p.m. that same day.
Police continue to monitor the victim’s medical condition while reminding the public of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and uncontrolled anger.
Authorities urge communities to seek help from law enforcement and social services when family disputes intensify, stressing that intervention could save lives.
