MATALAM, COTABATO — Two relatives who were reported missing since Sunday were found dead in the overgrown area of Sitio Kaya-kaya, Barangay Marbel, Matalam, after authorities discovered their bodies in successive days.

The first to be found was 20-year-old alias “De” or “Dede,” a fish vendor from Barangay Noa, Magpet, whose body was recovered on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Matalam PNP Town Chief PLt. Col. Maileen Estrellan confirmed that the body matched the missing young man, who had been searched for three days by his family.

The following morning, Wednesday, November 19, the body of his 13-year-old niece was also found in the same area. The Matalam MPS, Provincial Intelligence Unit, 40th IB, Magpet MPS, and the victims’ relatives positively identified the girl’s remains.

Last seen on Sunday

According to the investigation, the uncle and niece had said they were only going to buy meat in Poblacion, Magpet, on Sunday afternoon around 4 p.m., but never returned home.
Witnesses reported seeing them later in Greenhill and Antipas, heading toward Arakan, before they disappeared completely.

Their motorcycle, which they were riding, remains missing and is still being searched for by investigators.

Foul play not ruled out

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of death of the two relatives.
“We are still investigating whether foul play is involved or if there are other circumstances to consider,” said Matalam PNP.

The Matalam and Magpet police are intensifying their coordination to uncover the full circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.

Family grief and appeal for justice

The victims’ family expressed deep grief, having spent three days searching before receiving the tragic news.
They are appealing to the public to provide any information that may help resolve the case and bring justice for the two victims.

The investigation is ongoing, and the public is urged to remain vigilant while authorities continue to gather information.
