DAVAO CITY — China National Heavy Duty Truck Group (Sinotruk) has officially rolled out its first locally assembled truck from its new Philippine factory in Davao City, marking a breakthrough moment for the company’s expansion in Southeast Asia and strengthening the city’s reputation as a rising industrial hub.

During the ceremony last September 5, a brand-new HOWO unit—rugged, polished, and fresh off the production line—slowly emerged from the factory gates. Its robust exterior reflected Sinotruk’s technological advancement and the strong manufacturing capabilities now being built on Philippine soil.

The milestone was jointly witnessed by technical and management teams from China and the Philippines. According to company officials, the successful rollout represents the combined expertise, precision, and collaboration between Sinotruk and its local automotive assembly partners.

Local Expertise, Global Coordination

Guided by the principle of “rooted locally, serving the market,” the KD (Knock-Down) project team in the Philippines overcame logistical hurdles, coordinated domestic and international resources, maintained stringent quality control, and worked closely with local dealers to establish the Davao assembly plant.

The facility now enables local chassis assembly and the production of cargo bodies—an upgrade that gives dealers expanded supply chain options and significantly reduces delivery times for customers across the country.

Strengthening Market Responsiveness

By bringing assembly operations directly to Mindanao, Sinotruk significantly improves its responsiveness to the Philippine market. The shortened delivery cycle and localized production capacity allow the company to adapt swiftly to customer demand, while supporting local employment and technical skills development.

Company officials emphasized that the new plant highlights Sinotruk’s commitment to advancing its internationalization strategy, deepening partnerships with Filipino stakeholders, and building long-term presence in the region.

Boost to Davao and Southeast Asian Localization Push

The Davao assembly plant marks a crucial step toward Sinotruk’s broader localization efforts not only in the Philippines but throughout Southeast Asia. It signals increasing investor confidence in Mindanao’s logistics and industrial potential—positioning Davao City as a key node for manufacturing, distribution, and regional integration.

As the first Philippine-assembled Sinotruk unit officially hits the road, the company says this achievement is only the beginning of a strengthened partnership aimed at creating more jobs, expanding industrial capacity, and bringing world-class commercial vehicles closer to Filipino consumers.

The rollout sets the pace for future local production, ensuring that Davao City—and the Philippines—remains firmly on the map in the evolving landscape of global automotive manufacturing.
