TAGUM CITY – A man was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in the early hours of Wednesday, November 5, 2025, outside the Mug-Shots Resto Bar along Quirante II Street, Barangay Magugpo Poblacion, Tagum City.

The victim was identified by police as Sanny V. Guhil, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay New Cortez, New Corella, Davao del Norte. Guhil, who worked as a habal-habal driver, sustained gunshot wounds to the back of his head, which caused his instant death.

According to Rolando R. Carpio, 52, the bar’s bouncer, he was arranging tables outside the establishment when he heard three gunshots. Upon checking, he saw Guhil already lying motionless beside his motorcycle. Witnesses reported that the gunman, wearing a white jacket and riding a scooter-type motorcycle, immediately fled the scene after the shooting.

Personnel from the Davao del Norte Provincial Forensic Unit (DNPFU) led by PMAJ Kriz D. Chavez recovered three spent shells from a caliber 9mm pistol at the crime scene. They also found in the victim’s possession a glass tooter, an improvised glass tube with tooter, and a disposable lighter, suggesting possible involvement in illegal drug use.

Police investigators are still determining the motive behind the killing. Initial reports indicate the incident may have stemmed from a personal grudge, though other angles are being considered.

Authorities have launched a hot pursuit and dragnet operation to locate the suspect, while the victim’s remains were brought to Villagan Funeral Homes for proper disposition.
