ISABELA CITY, Basilan — The City Government of Isabela, under the leadership of Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, proudly celebrated its official declaration as a Rabies-Free City by the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office IX (DA-RFO IX), marking a major milestone in the city’s commitment to public health, safety, and animal welfare.

Mayor Turabin-Hataman personally received the Plaque of Recognition on behalf of the city during the awarding ceremony held on November 6 in Zamboanga City. She was joined by City Veterinarian Dr. Erwin Jalao and City Health Office Anti-Rabies Program Coordinator Bernardita Hontucan. The event gathered key officials and representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, and various local government units across the region.

The recognition highlights Isabela City’s comprehensive and sustained efforts in implementing rabies prevention and control programs, spearheaded by the City Veterinary Office and City Health Office, with strong support from community stakeholders. Through consistent mass vaccination drives, responsible pet ownership advocacy, and public information campaigns, the city has successfully eliminated rabies within its locality.

Mayor Turabin-Hataman commended the collaborative efforts of local agencies and residents, emphasizing that the achievement reflects the community’s unity and compassion for both people and animals.

The City Government of Isabela remains determined to sustain its rabies-free status and continue promoting programs that strengthen animal health, raise community awareness, and foster responsible citizenship — all in pursuit of a safer, healthier, and more compassionate Isabela City.
