HAGONOY, Davao del Sur — A 60-year-old farmer was shot dead in broad daylight by an unidentified gunman while resting on a hammock in Barangay New Quezon, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur, on Sunday afternoon, November 2, 2025.

Authorities identified the victim as Cerilo Sarona Galios, a single male resident of Purok 7 in the said barangay.

Initial police investigation revealed that Galios was resting on a hammock at his neighbor’s house around 2:05 p.m. when an unidentified assailant wearing a bonnet approached and, without warning, shot him using a .45 caliber pistol. The gunman immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction, leaving the victim lifeless.

The incident was first reported by Barangay Captain of Alibangbang, who promptly informed the Hagonoy Municipal Police Station. Responding officers led by PMAJ Aizzel A. Alvarez, Chief of Police, proceeded to the area to conduct a crime scene investigation and initiate a manhunt operation to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the fatal shooting as investigations continue.
