ILIGAN CITY – Authorities arrested two men while another remains at large after they were caught conducting illegal mining operations in Sitio Kapisahan, Barangay Mainit, Iligan City, on October 22, 2025.

During the operation, the suspects were apprehended while actively loading gold-bearing waste materials and operating a rod mill. Confiscated from the site were seven rod mills, a generator, an electric motor, a compressor, and other mining tools and equipment.

The arrested suspects will face charges for violating Republic Act No. 7942, also known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995, which strictly prohibits mining without the necessary permits and licenses.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal mining activity. Officials warned that unregulated mining not only violates the law but also poses serious threats to the environment and local communities.
