CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A man was killed after his throat was slashed by a fellow passenger inside a public jeepney in Zone 10, Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City.

The victim was later identified as Bob, a fish vendor from Carmen, who was on his way home from Bulua after selling fish. The suspect, identified only as alias JM, was later apprehended by authorities but has given inconsistent statements about his motive.

Based on the initial investigation, JM claimed that the victim allegedly threatened and confronted him. However, police said the suspect kept changing his story, prompting investigators to conduct further questioning to determine the real reason behind the attack.

According to police, JM had previously been jailed for theft and was reportedly a member of the BM 29 group.

Bob’s wife, Tata, is now crying for justice. She said her husband would only take a jeepney if he had fare money, as he often walked from Bulua to Carmen to save on expenses. “Yesterday, he only brought boiled bananas for lunch while working,” she shared, recalling her husband’s hard work and perseverance to provide for their family.

Tata said she had never seen the suspect before and could not understand why her husband was killed. “If my husband had faced the suspect, maybe the crime wouldn’t have happened. Bob knew how to defend himself,” she added.

Authorities recovered several personal belongings from Bob’s bag, including IDs, a knife, a wristwatch, and perfume. Police continue to investigate while the suspect remains in custody.

Bob’s grieving family and community are now calling for swift justice for his death.
