Cagayan de Oro City – May 1, 2025

A swift police operation led to the arrest of a 62-year-old suspect in the brutal killing of a 17-year-old girl in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO 10) announced.

The victim’s lifeless body was discovered on the morning of April 29, 2025, in a swampy area in Sitio Mambato, Barangay Lapasan. She bore a fatal hacked wound to the neck. Authorities later identified her as a resident of Barangay Pikinit, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the suspect fleeing with a bloodied bolo. One also claimed that the suspect had introduced the minor as his “mistress” shortly before the incident.

The suspect, known only by the alias “Boy,” is a 62-year-old laborer at Solid Shipping Container Lines and a resident of the same barangay. Following the crime, he allegedly moved between different locations to evade capture.

A manhunt was immediately launched by Police Station 3 (PS3) – Agora of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), with support from the Regional Forensic Unit 10 (SOCO), which processed the crime scene.

The breakthrough came on April 30, 2025, at around 6:55 PM, when joint operatives from PS3 and the Initao Municipal Police Station arrested the suspect in Purok 11, Poblacion, Initao, Misamis Oriental.

The suspect is now in the custody of PS3 for proper disposition.

PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO 10, lauded the effective coordination and dedication of the operating units involved in the arrest.

“This operation reflects the relentless commitment of our personnel to pursue justice and hold criminals accountable,” De Guzman said. “I commend the leadership of PMAJ Maruhom and all operating units involved in this successful arrest.”

PRO 10 reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding communities and ensuring justice for victims of violence.
