GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A shocking discovery rattled residents of Purok 11, Lanton, Barangay Apopong, General Santos City on the morning of October 12, 2025, after the lifeless body of a newborn baby was found stuffed inside a carton and left among piles of garbage under a drainage tunnel.
According to reports, a resident identified as Cherry Ann Gregorio made the gruesome discovery around 8:00 a.m. while tending to their goats. Gregorio said they were drawn to the area by the strange smell that their animals seemed to be tracking. Upon checking, they found a carton placed inside an eco bag, containing the body of a baby wrapped in a white cloth, with the umbilical cord still attached — suggesting that the infant was newly born.
Authorities believe the baby may have been deliberately discarded under the drainage tunnel, located about 30 to 40 feet below ground, an area littered with trash. Investigators are still determining whether the baby was already dead before being abandoned or died afterward.
Police have cordoned off the area as part of the ongoing investigation, while forensic teams are working to establish the baby’s identity and locate the person responsible.
The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among netizens, with many expressing anger over the apparent act of abandonment.
“Hooy, kaluoy pod sa bata. Walay konsensya ang inahan nga naglabay sa bata. Unsaon na lang, Ginoo, hatagi og hustisya ang bata,” one netizen lamented.
“Ka mangtas sa inahan… daghan gusto mudawat ana kung gihatag lang unta,” another commented, echoing calls for justice.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that may lead to the identification of the mother or those involved to come forward as the investigation continues.
