ISABELA CITY, BASILAN — Hope and inspiration filled the Raayat Hall of the Basilan People’s Capitol on Saturday morning as 386 Basileño college students received financial assistance from the provincial government under Governor Mujiv Hataman’s flagship program, “Usap Tayo, Gob!”

The initiative, which literally means “Let’s Talk, Governor,” seeks to bring government closer to the youth by directly listening to their concerns and helping address the barriers that hinder their education.

Governor Hataman personally led the activity, emphasizing that the educational assistance program is designed to help students from low-income families cope with tuition fees, transportation, uniforms, and other school-related expenses.

“Education remains the best equalizer. Through this program, we hope to ensure that no Basileño student is left behind simply because of financial difficulties,” Hataman said in his message to the scholars.

Before being approved, all applicants underwent a thorough screening and interview process to ensure that only qualified beneficiaries were selected. The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) also reminded recipients to complete all necessary documentation for the final assessment.

Provincial Administrator Manny Muarip encouraged the students to use the financial aid responsibly and focus on their studies, while Dr. Alzad Sattar of the Basilan Ulama Supreme Council underscored the vital role of the youth in nation-building—urging them to uphold their values, preserve culture, and contribute to the province’s progress.

The program blended inspiration with accountability, highlighting not just financial support but also mentorship and guidance.

In his closing message, Governor Hataman expressed gratitude to all the partners and agencies that helped make the event possible, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive and participatory governance.

“The real goal of Usap Tayo, Gob! is not just to provide assistance, but to listen—to hear the voices of our youth and make sure that every Basileño has a fair chance at a better future,” Hataman said.

For many of the student-beneficiaries, the day was more than just about receiving aid—it was a reminder that their dreams matter, and that the provincial government is listening.
