Tupi, South Cotabato — Three former members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and two from a Local Terrorist Group (LTG) formally surrendered to the 38th Infantry “We Clear” Battalion, turning over high-powered firearms and pledging to reintegrate into society.
The returnees were presented to LTC Erwin E. Felongco, Commanding Officer of the 38IB, by the unit’s Intel Platoon and Bravo “Brahman” Company. Among the surrendered firearms were two homemade M79 grenade launchers, two M1 Carbine rifles, and one M653 rifle, along with magazines and live ammunition.
Authorities identified the LTG surrenderees as former members of the dismantled DI-Maguid Group, while the CTG returnees were once affiliated with Guerilla Front 73 (DGF MUSA) of the Far South Mindanao Region.
As part of their initial support, the Army provided each returnee with cash assistance and a sack of rice.
In a statement, LTC Felongco lauded the decision of the former rebels to abandon armed struggle and rejoin mainstream society.
“Your decision to return to the fold of the law is not just a victory for yourselves and your families, but also for the entire community,” he said. “This is a clear sign that peace is possible if we choose dialogue and unity over conflict. The government and the Army are ready to support your new beginning, ensuring that you and your families live in peace, dignity, and security.”
The 38th Infantry Battalion reiterated its call for remaining members of both the CTG and LTG to surrender, stressing that genuine peace and progress can only be achieved by laying down arms and embracing peaceful means of change.
