Government forces recovered several explosives in a deserted compound in Sitio Kimondo, Barangay Lagandang, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, following a joint clearing operation launched by the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry (Tapat) Battalion.
The operation, led by Lieutenant Colonel Tristan Rey P. Vallescas INF (GSC) PA and conducted under the operational control of the 603rd Infantry (Persuader) Brigade, was initiated after concerned residents reported the presence of suspicious materials in the area.
Upon verification, troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion, in coordination with the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, the Operational Center–Explosive Hazard Management Response (OPCEN-EHMR), and the Joint Peace Security Team (JPST), recovered four rounds of rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and two rounds of rifle grenades inside the abandoned compound reportedly owned by a certain Mutin Ali.
Lt. Col. Vallescas commended the vigilance of the local community that led to the discovery.
“This successful recovery operation was made possible through the vigilance and cooperation of our fellow citizens. We encourage the community to remain proactive in reporting threats as we continue to safeguard peace and security in the area,” he said.
Brigadier General Michael A. Santos PA, Commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, likewise praised the coordination between security forces and residents.
“This accomplishment by the 7IB is a clear example of how our people and our soldiers can work hand in hand to deny lawless elements the space to operate. We are grateful for the trust of our communities and remain committed to protecting them from any threat to peace and order,” he stated.
The recovered explosives are now in the custody of authorities for proper investigation and disposal. Security forces are also conducting follow-up operations to identify and apprehend those behind the stockpiling of explosives.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious persons or materials to the nearest military or police unit to ensure continued peace and security in the province.
