BUTIG, Lanao del Sur – The Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division and the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces–Moro Islamic Liberation Front (BIAF-MILF) reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustaining peace and cooperation during a dialogue held on October 7, 2025, at Camp Bushra in Butig.
The meeting was led by Major General Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo Jr., Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN, alongside senior Army officials and Member of Parliament Basit “Jannati Mimbantas” Abas, Commander of the North Eastern Mindanao Front (NEMF) of the BIAF-MILF.
The dialogue centered on confidence-building measures, improved coordination, and open communication between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the MILF — vital components in ensuring the continued stability of the Bangsamoro region.
“We must always choose dialogue and understanding over conflict. This engagement reflects our shared resolve to preserve peace and protect our communities,” said Major General Barroquillo, emphasizing the military’s role not only in defense but also in peacebuilding.
MP Abas expressed gratitude to the 1ID for its consistent support of the peace process, saying, “Thank you to the 1st Infantry Tabak Division for being not only defenders of sovereignty but also protectors of the people.”
The dialogue was marked by mutual respect, cultural warmth, and openness — underscoring the deepening partnership between the AFP and the MILF as they work hand in hand in sustaining the peace process under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The Tabak Division reaffirmed its dedication to promoting inclusive peace engagement and fostering inter-community cooperation in support of the government’s broader peace and development agenda across Mindanao.
