Malabang, Lanao del Sur — October 9, 2025. A significant stride toward lasting peace and security unfolded in Lanao del Sur as residents from the province’s Second District voluntarily surrendered 12 high-powered firearms to the 1101st Infantry “Gagandilan” Brigade of the Philippine Army.

The turnover ceremony, held at the Brigade headquarters in Malabang, was personally led by Brigadier General Yasser R. Bara, Commander of the 1101st Brigade, who received the surrendered weapons from community representatives. Among the firearms turned over were M14 rifles, M16 rifles, and a sniper rifle—types often used in armed conflicts.

According to BGen Bara, the voluntary surrender of the firearms reflects the growing trust and confidence of the people in the government and its peace initiatives.

“This is the result of continuous coordination between the military, local government units, and other stakeholders. It is a crucial step toward a safer and more progressive Bangsamoro,” said BGen Bara.

He added that the initiative forms part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ broader “Balik-Baril Program,” which encourages individuals formerly associated with armed groups to return to the fold of the law and embrace peaceful living.

Local government officials likewise expressed full support for the peace initiative, committing to strengthen collaboration with security forces to ensure stability and development in their communities.

The surrendered firearms will undergo proper documentation and disposition in accordance with existing AFP regulations.

In his closing message, BGen Bara reiterated his appeal to other communities in the province to join the government’s peace campaign and surrender any unlicensed firearms still in their possession.

“True victory is not measured by the number of weapons collected, but by the number of lives we are able to save,” he emphasized.

The event marks another milestone in the continuing efforts to foster peace, reconciliation, and unity in the Bangsamoro region.
